Past indefinite Tense in Hindi
जिस वाक्य के अंत में आ, ए, ई अथवा या, ये, यी आये, वह वाक्य past indefinite tense कहलाता है, जैसे वह स्कूल गया। (He went to school.)
Affirmative Forms –
Past indefinite tense के affirmative sentences (positive forms) में verb की 2nd form का प्रयोग किया जाता है। Past indefinite tense के सभी प्रकार के साधारण वाक्यों में verb की 2nd form का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Structure –
Subject + Verb II + Object.
Example –
| He went to school. | वह स्कूल गया। |
| She went to school. | वह स्कूल गई। |
| I went to school. | मैं स्कूल गया था। |
| We went to school. | हम स्कूल गए। |
| You went to school. | आप स्कूल गए। |
| They went to school. | वे स्कूल गए। |
Note – केवल यही एक प्रकार का ऐसा tense है जिसके साधारण वाक्यों (affirmative sentences) में हमेशा verb की 2nd form का प्रयोग किया जाता है, बाकि दूसरे किसी भी tense में verb की 2nd form का use नहीं होता।
Negative forms –
Past indefinite tense के negative sentences में ‘did not’ के साथ verb की 1st form का use किया जाता है।
Structure –
Subject + did + not + Verb I + Object.
Example –
| He did not go to school. | वह स्कूल नहीं गया था। |
| She did not go to school. | वह स्कूल नहीं जाती थी। |
| I did not go to school. | मैं विद्यालय नहीं गया। |
| We did not go to school. | हम स्कूल नहीं गए। |
| You did not go to school. | आप स्कूल नहीं गए। |
| They did not go to school. | वे स्कूल नहीं गए। |

Interrogative forms –
Past indefinite tense के interrogative sentences में ‘did’ का प्रयोग subject के पहले किया जाता है।
Structure –
Did + Subject + Verb I + Object + ?
Example –
| Did he go to school? | क्या वह स्कूल गया? |
| Did she go to school? | क्या वह स्कूल गयी? |
| Did I go to school? | क्या मैं स्कूल गया? |
| Did we go to school? | क्या हम स्कूल गए? |
| Did you go to school? | क्या आप स्कूल गए? |
| Did they go to school? | क्या वे स्कूल गए? |
Interrogative Negative Forms –
Past indefinite tense के interrogative negative sentences में ‘did’ का प्रयोग subject के पहले और बाद में ‘not’ और verb की 1st form का प्रयोग किया जाता है। लेकिन ज्यादातर लोग ‘didn’t’ का प्रयोग subject के पहले करने में ज्यादा सहूलियत मानते है। इस प्रकार इस वाक्य के दो sentence structure बनते है।
Structure –
Did + Subject + not + Verb I + Object + ?
OR
Didn’t + Subject + Verb I + Object + ?
Example –
| Did he not go to school? OR Didn’t he go to school? | क्या वह स्कूल नहीं गया? |
| Did she not go to school? OR Didn’t she go to school? | क्या वह स्कूल नहीं गयी? |
| Did I not go to school? OR Didn’t I go to school? | क्या मैं स्कूल नहीं गया? |
| Did we not go to school? OR Didn’t we go to school? | क्या हम स्कूल नहीं गए? |
| Did you not go to school? OR Didn’t you go to school? | क्या तुम स्कूल नहीं गए? |
| Did they not go to school? OR Didn’t they go to school? | क्या वे स्कूल नहीं गए थे? |
